MSTelcom - Mercury Telecommunications Services SARL - was established on March 21, 1997 to provide and maintain reliable telecommunications for Sonangol Group.

The business need came from the lack of good quality communications intra-povincialy and throughout the country together with the absence of a local telecommunications company that could guarantee the communications of Sonangol Grupo. Thus, Sonangol invested in a subsidiary that would proved these type of services.

In 1999 MSTelcom was capitalised at $34.6 million, of which 99 per cent was owned by Sonangol EP and the remainder by Sonangol P&P.

On August 2, 1999 the company's headquarters were moved to the new facilities at Petrangol - TCC, Telecom Center - and it was at that time that laboratorial activities started being developed. To the present most of our work force and equipment is located at TCC.

The company was licensed as a telecommunications operator in 2003 - one of four in the country.

MSTelcom is an organisation typical of its Sonangol roots, born of the need to provide a dependable service to the Group which actually represents 85% of our business revenues. Through the resources of its management and staff it has grown into a top-rank service provider that can now offer the fruits of its expertise to private, business and industrial users of the country as a whole.

Our client base, beyond Sonangol Group, includes companies like Unitel, Enana, Coca-Cola, Hotel Trópico, Chitolo (VSAT and Internet), TDA, Cimangola, SML and Petrogal (Trunking).

In the near future we intend to enhance our social responsability and build a rural satellite network connectivity for private users, as well as for industrial firms and businesses within these communities.
